Will any Real Leaders turn up at COP26?
The oldest and simplest justification for government is as protector of its citizens, yet already the rhetoric from leaders due to attend the upcoming UN Climate Change Conference in Glasgow - COP26, is demonstrating the reverse.
Protect and Provide - not defend and divide.
Citizenship is a relationship between an individual and a state to which the individual owes allegiance and in turn is entitled to its protection, yet a prime example, Australia, is already defending ignorance of the global problems we face.
Prime Minister Scott Morrison has defended what he calls the 'The Australian Way', stating "We won't be lectured by others who do not understand Australia." His plan will not include ending Australia's fossil fuel sectors, and refuses to set ambitious targets for 2030 - an objective of the COP26 global climate summit.
His rhetoric perfectly demonstrates his own lack of understanding of global problems, and that he is, in fact, attacking his own citizens, and those of other nations, by refusing to acknowledge the severity of the climate crisis we face, and the fact that time is up. It seems elected leaders are more concerned with when their elected term is up, rather the fact - time is up.
