The International Advisory Council is IOWL's established non-voting advisory body. Members bring independent expertise and perspective to the Calibre conversation while governance, standards, recognition and intellectual stewardship remain with IOWL.

The Council exists because the development and exercise of Integrous Agency occurs across psychological, behavioural, social, cultural, organisational, professional, economic, technological and institutional circumstances. IOWL therefore draws on different forms of expertise to interrogate and contextualise its work.
The Council's role is not to confer legitimacy through association. Its value lies in informed scrutiny: identifying assumptions, bringing relevant evidence and lived professional perspective, challenging boundaries and helping IOWL consider how Calibre is understood and applied across contexts.
IOWL retains institutional stewardship of the Calibre proposition, Positive Value Leadership, Reflective Transformation, Integrous Agency, Calibre Credits and its associated frameworks, methodologies, standards, terminology and intellectual property. Council membership does not confer joint ownership, definitional authority, curriculum control, accreditation authority, licensing rights or awarding authority.
IAC membership is a standing personal advisory relationship with IOWL. It is distinct from attending an AAC, IAAC or IASAC convening.
Appointments are made because a discipline, profession, context or form of experience can materially strengthen scrutiny of the Calibre proposition.
Membership does not imply agreement with every IOWL framework, conclusion or statement. Constructive disagreement is part of the Council's value.
Affiliations identify professional context. Unless separately agreed, they do not mean that an employer or institution sponsors, governs, accredits or endorses IOWL.
Membership is by appointment of IOWL's Executive Director and Dean, having regard to the balance and needs of the Council.
Appointments normally run for three years and may be renewed having regard to continued relevance, contribution and Council balance.
The full Council is normally convened on a biennial cycle, with thematic meetings, consultations, roundtables and Forum participation undertaken according to relevance and need.
Members are expected to make a reasonable substantive contribution during their term. Contribution may include Council or Forum participation, consultation responses, specialist review, evidence-sharing or other agreed advisory activity.
There is no requirement that every member attend every convening.
The IAC does not exercise binding decision-making authority. No academic, professional, geographic or institutional constituency acquires control through numerical representation.
Where IOWL seeks a recorded collective view, responses may be summarised or reported, but the outcome remains advisory. Executive, standards, curriculum, recognition and awarding decisions remain with the IOWL function accountable for them.
