IOWL joins OECD Future of Education and Skills forum as AI reshapes the curriculum question

BRATISLAVA, 24 November 2025 The Institute of One World Leadership (IOWL) is participating in the 8th OECD Global Forum on the Future of Education and Skills, taking place in Bratislava from 24-26 November under the theme Curriculum Transformation in the Era of AI: changing 'What to Learn' and 'How to Teach'.

The forum comes at a point when artificial intelligence is rapidly changing what learners can access, generate and automate. IOWL's interest is the human question that follows from that expansion of capability: what must education continue to develop in people when access to knowledge and technical assistance becomes easier?

IOWL distinguishes Capability, what a person knows, understands and has the capacity to do, from Competency, the effective application of that capability, and Calibre, the judgement, integrity, responsibility and values-led agency governing how both are exercised.

From knowledge and skills to agency and judgement

The OECD Future of Education and Skills work considers knowledge and skills alongside attitudes, values and student agency. For IOWL, that wider frame matters because curriculum transformation in an AI-enabled environment is not only about which new technical capabilities learners need. It is also about how learners decide when to use those capabilities, why they are using them, whose interests are affected and what consequences follow.

This creates a practical curriculum challenge. Universities and education systems can teach students how to use increasingly powerful tools, but access to a tool does not by itself establish the quality of judgement with which it will be used. IOWL's Positive Value Leadership™ work is concerned with that additional developmental dimension.

Why the discussion matters beyond AI literacy

IOWL is using the Bratislava forum to examine three connected questions. First, how attitudes and values can be treated as developmental rather than merely aspirational. Second, how learner agency can be strengthened without assuming that autonomy automatically produces responsible judgement. Third, how development can continue beyond formal education as roles, technology, authority and consequence change.

That third question is central to IOWL's emerging Perpetual Calibre Development™ proposition. The Institute's position is that professional development should not end when a qualification is awarded or when a person enters employment. Judgement and responsibility need continuing attention as a person's capacity to affect others increases.

The Bratislava discussions will therefore inform IOWL's continuing work on Positive Value Leadership, Calibre development and the relationship between future-ready education and responsible human agency.
